Hello! I am Pallavi. I am currently a student in 7th grade at the Adventure STEM program at Herman Intermediate. This is the place to learn about everything I did in the school year 2015-2016. I hope to go to Stanford, and become an anesthesiologist. You can also check out my E-portfolio and projects from 6th and 5th grade.

Being a student at Adventure has been an extrodinary experience. I have enjoyed every day I have been here. The teachers always find a new way to teach, so that all lessons are interesting and engaging. Every time you enter a classroom, a sense of wonder washes over you. You will find yourself anticipating the lesson before it had even begun. Adventure is an experience that can broaden your horizons. To be an Adventure student means to be a

In Science, we do projects that make us all look at the same thing differently. We share our opinions on topics, which is enc0uraged. My science teacher once said, "Everyone has an opinion. It takes courage to share it. " I have kept that in mind every time we participate in a class discussion. Though we do not study many different topics, we study key topics, and investigate deep into them. We make sure to cover every aspect about that topic. If one person doesn't understand, then we review the lesson breifly. Adventure is about understanding the concept, as I have learned through 3 years of Science.

History is my favorite subject. For every topic, we get a chance to do independent research about the topic. We are trusted by the teacher to research and learn independently not for a grade, but for the sake of learning something new. We also do class learning, but it isn't very common. I have had this History class for 2 years(I had a different one in 5th grade), and I have enjoyed every minute in that class. If we have questions, we explore all the different possibilities that could answer the questions. My history teacher also believes that everyone has an opinion, and it takes courage to share it with others. Everyone has shared their opinion at least once a week. We are encouraged to take our disscussions out of class, and discuss topics outside of class. Debates are important to Adventure, as History has taught me.

Mathematics involves lots of parnter and group work. We are taught as a group, but we have partner work. We work in groups to solve equations, and practice different techniques together. We usually will be given a problem, and told to try to solve it. Afterwards, we share our answers and how we got them. We then proceed to solve the problem as a group. We then look at what our previous method was, and understand how we were wrong and how we were right. I would say this is one of the classes in which we do not discuss our opinions, because in Mathematics, there is always a right answer, and there are techniques that are set in stone. You can come up with new ways, but the original ways are always right. This means that we discuss our different ways of solving the equation, but we do not discuss anything else.

English/Lauguage arts is what I like to call the 'Creative Subject'. A lot of the time, we will come up with something ourselves. We are given requirements, and then are allowed to create our own works. A lot of the time, we have to write a specific kind of essay, but are allowed to choose the topic. We are encouraged to share our work, and we do.  We are encouraged to use our creativity, and think outside the box.

Game Desgin is definetely one of my favorite classes. Adventure is privileged to take part in Globaloria, a nationwide program that involves many schools in game design. We are taught through our teacher as well as experts about Globaloria. We create 2 kinds of games - Hidden Objects Games, and Action Games. Globaloria continues from 5th to 8th grade. Each year different requirements are given, meaning that we have to start from scratch all over again. This give us the opportunity to refine our coding and gaming skills.

Adventure has truly been an experience that has shaped me into the kind of person I am today. This is one of the most welcoming places I have ever encountered. Everyone is very welcoming, and I finally found a place with like-minded classmates. Adventure has been a 3 year adventure for me.
