History

In History, we played games on a website called Mission US. There are three games, and each are about something that happened in history. One is about the fight between the British and the colonists during the Revolutionary War, one is about the time of slavery, and one is on how the Native Americans felt when settlers were moving west into the Native American’s territory. The first one was about the American Revolution.  In the game, I was a man named Nathaniel John Wheeler. I was a teenager who had grown up on a farm, and was moving to Boston to become an apprentice of a printer. I was involved with the Sons of Liberty and a woman named Constance. She was a Loyalist. In the second game I had to be a girl named Lucy King. I was a slave on a plantation, and I needed to escape. I had to survive for about two years. In the last one, the third one, I was a Cheyenne boy named Little Fox. I had to grow up when settlers were coming into the Great Plains and the Native Americans would fight back.  In Language Arts, our classes with History go hand-in-hand with each other. Our writing assignments are all about something in history.

I have been doing Mission US all year. If you would like to check out the website, here it is: http://www.mission-us.org/

Doing this activity was a lot of fun. It was interactive and educational. It gave me an indepth knowledge of American history from different time periods. It made me appreciate the freedom that I have and I'm glad to be living in these modern times. I'm thankful to our forefathers who fought for our freedom.

Laguage Arts

WAC

A big part of Language Arts is WAC-Writing Across Curriculum. For Example, in Science, I did a WAC about why the seasons change.Another example of WAC is the writing assignment about perspectives. It involved analyzing the fairy tale " Three Little Pigs". I learnt that a story can be written from different points of view. It could be written in 1st person, 2nd person or 3rd person depending on what the author wants to tell about the characters.

This assignment was very interesting because it made me think deeper about a lot of other stories. For example, the chapter book "Elijah of Buxton" is written from 1st person perspective. I have read this book many times. After learning about perspective, I was able to recognize that it was from a first person's point of view because it uses "I" in addressing the main character. It made the reading more interesting and fun.
