Minecraft Math Project

 

In this project we had to design a Minecraft character, and we had to find it's volume, and its square footage too., It had to be a completely new character since we could not use existing characters.  I used my imagination to create an alien. I started by using graph paper to draw my net and then cutting it out. I then folded it to see all the sides, and where to put the pictures. Then on my first cube, I drew the face. I did the same for the body, legs, and arms. I then glued the pieces together. I found the volume using the formula Length x Width x Height. I then found the surface area. That was a little difficult. But, I managed to do it. I then made a poster. 

 

I had several false starts. This taught me perseverance. It was difficult without a partner, but it helped me to work without one. I learned to work without depending on someone to do part of the work. It also was helpful, because I used my ideas. I learnt the math: how to find volume, and to find surface area, but in a really fun and interactive way.
